Hey guys! Just thought I would let you know that there will be no comic today. I originally had some filler planned, but it didn’t come out like I wanted…DOUBLE FAIL! I had today’s comic drawn out but realized at the last minute that it was out of order with the story so I had to place it on the back burner, which didn’t give me enough time to get another comic ready.
I do wanna thank you guys for sticking with me…I know I have never been a very consistent artist to say the least, but I have always been easily distracted and I can honestly say things have changed with me in the last couple of weeks that I think will help. The only think that has me tied up right now is Otakon prep and while I could rant all day about how stressful Otakon has made things this year, I am taking the high road and rolling with the punches. Either way we will be at Otakon and I will go into a little more detail next week and let you know where you will be able to find us…Hopefully!
Anyway, hope everyone has a great weekend and seeya next week!
I know the updates have been a little wonky (yes wonky!) the last couple of weeks and the easiest way to explain it is personal issues, birthdays (my own being one of them), and work. The personal issues were a very large part of the no update process and I while I’m not going into detail I can say that I have overcome these issues and am looking to move forward. This week is me playing catch up and will be back on track next week.
I have to admit that over the last 5 years I have wanted to do comics because it seemed like something fun to do and while I have had fun, I always fell behind on updates because I guess I have never been 100% committed like I fooled myself into thinking I was. However, as I reach the end of my 20’s I have decided that it’s time to stop messing around and put the pencil to the paper. I always wanted to be a better artist and while I have improved somewhat I haven’t gotten anywhere close to where I wanted to be by now. Now I don’t have any dreams of working for a major comic label or anything like that, but I do have the dream of one day picking up a piece that I drew and being happy with it. I know a lot of artists will tell you that you are never happy with your own work and that is true, but to just come close once would be a great achievement. I still have a lot of growing up to do, but I think I’m ready to make those steps and hopefully become a better person in the process. I want to thank everyone who has stuck with this comic and [sic] for the long haul and promise you that you will see improvements in not only updates, but quality of work.
Anyway, I leave you with this….I can’t seem to stop watching it!
Well, we finally got to the end of chapter 1 and I’m super glad. When I first started this comic I knew exactly how I wanted to do it and how it’s going to end and all the cool stuff that is going to happen down the road, but I’ll admit that I took a lot of liberties with chapter 1 that weren’t in my original script. I’m not sure why, but once I started getting to each comic I would realize that something in that comic was possibly contradicting something down the road and so that would mean a rewrite. This happened quite a few times and it really made chapter 1 more comedy heavy than I originally intended, but in the end I got what I wanted and am ready to move on to chapter 2 which I think is going to surprise some folks.
A huge thank you to everyone who has been reading this comic and a extra thank you to the folks who leave comments and feedback. I promise some big stuff is in store for ATM in the future and hope you guys stick around to check it out.
Just a heads up for this week. I will be taking the week off to prepare for chapter 2, but our very own Mr. Ryan Thompson will be covering for me with some very awesome stuff to get ya by. I am also looking to steal his idea about putting up monthly incentives for the TWC voting, so keep an eye out for that this week. So once again thank you to all the readers of ATM and chapter 2 starts next week!
I know some folks will probably be confused by the color in the current comic. A few months ago I held a poll of of whether people would be mind if we switched the comic from full color to b&w to increase updates and the majority voted and we switched to b&w. Now I did say at the time that I would possibly one day return to doing color comics and it would seem that I decided to do it a lot earlier than I thought i would. I have been trying to get this coloring thing down for some time and I realized that I won’t get any better at it if I’m not doing it. The main question I’m sure you are asking is will it affect the updates again? The short answer is no…While the current comic was late due to work circumstances, that won’t always be the case and at this point I am finally getting my comic stride back and want to take full advantage of it.
So unless something just goes wrong the comic will be back to full color and I may start going back to color the ones that are in b&w, but we will see about that later. Anyway, if yo have any thoughts or concerns on this please feel free to comment or hit me up in the forums…emails are cool to.
It has been one hell of a week so far! Everything I need to get done for the upcoming con needs to get done this week and man am I pressed for time. I usually wait till the last f*cking minute every time and this time I am trying to get it all done before the last minute, but at the same time…If that makes sense. If things go well then I will have alot to offer at the convention, but if they go bad then I will be down 3 different items, so wish me luck lol!
Anyway, this is the reason the comic is on standby until next week, I do apologize for it as I know I kinda left things on a cliffhanger. There will be a guest comic up tomorrow by Darkstar’s own Ryan Thompson, so please come back tomorrow and check that out then next week everything should be back to normal.
And just a reminder we will be at Katsucon Feb 12th – 14th..I’ll have some more info on that coming soon and probably more on the main Darkstar page.
